“Kathleen will ensure that every voice is heard, every vote is counted and every Ohioan is fairly represented”
COLUMBUS, OH – Today U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) endorsed State Representative Kathleen Clyde (D-Kent) in her campaign for Ohio Secretary of State.
“The right to vote is essential to the fabric of our democracy and Kathleen Clyde has spent her entire career fighting to protect this fundamental right. I’m proud to be supporting her campaign for Secretary of State,” said Congresswoman Beatty. “As Ohio’s next Secretary of State, Kathleen will ensure that every voice is heard at the ballot box, every vote is counted and every Ohioan is fairly represented.”
Congresswoman Beatty is a former Ohio House Minority Leader. During and since her service there, a constant stream of GOP rollbacks of voting rights have come out of the Statehouse and now D.C. Many of the restrictions have a disproportionate impact on black voters. With Republicans back in the White House, a new commission hostile to voting rights is working on recommendations to restrict voting access further. State Rep. Clyde and Congresswoman Beatty have both been staunch opponents of these efforts.
“I’m honored to receive the support of Congresswoman Beatty who has been a champion for Ohioans on so many issues that are critical to our state,” said Rep. Kathleen Clyde. “Once elected, I look forward to continuing to work with her to ensure every Ohioan has a voice.”
Rep. Kathleen Clyde announced her candidacy for Ohio Secretary of State in May 2017. In her fourth term in the legislature, she has been a relentless advocate for redistricting reform and voting rights. She has also fought against attacks on working families, like Senate Bill 5 and education laws that shortchange Ohio’s kids. She currently represents the 75th Ohio House district in Portage County.
